Positive Change is a strategy for clients who would like environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations to be a key driver of investment selection, alongside long-term financial returns.
To build a better and more sustainable world we need companies across industries to have sustainable practices, products and services. Some companies already have this sustainability focus while investor engagement can help push those that don’t to take important steps to improve.
As this strategy forms part of the Discretionary Portfolio Service (DPS), you will have a dedicated Investment Manager who will actively manage your portfolio, making adjustments depending on market and economic changes, or changes to your circumstances.
Investment Approach

The Positive Change strategy combines different approaches to ESG and sustainable investing. Several sustainable funds are held that favour companies making a positive contribution to the environment and society. Funds are also held that are considering ESG risks and opportunities within their investment approach.
Meaningful engagement by fund houses with company management is prioritised over formal exclusions on the basis that you cannot engage with companies that you do not own, but when you own them you can encourage change. While these considerations are a key driver of investment selection, a pragmatic approach is taken to give a well-diversified portfolio across asset classes, industries and investment styles. Examples of engagement with companies include:
- Environmental disclosures such as carbon intensity and water usage
- Social considerations such as working conditions and operating in a safe environment.
- Executive remuneration
