William Reid

Head of Charities
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

After a decade in the Royal Navy, working in submarines, I transitioned to wealth management in 2002 and have managed portfolios since 2003. After roles at Laing & Cruickshank and UBS, I became a founding partner at Cheviot in 2006. Post our merger with Quilter in 2013, I was appointed Head of Charities. A BA in Economics and Chartered Fellow status of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) underpin my qualifications, reflecting my continuing commitment to excellence in investment management.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

A large part of my day is spent overseeing charitable, company, and high net worth portfolios, leading the Charity team and helping to develop the skills of team members. My commitment to open and honest dialogue helps clients navigate the financial landscape with confidence, through regular meetings and contact. This enables me to implement tailored solutions, aligning investment strategies with clients' goals. My role also involves strategic oversight, sitting on the Investment Oversight Committee and Charity Asset Allocation Sub-Committee.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside work, I have contributed my time and financial experience to several charities, currently serving as Treasurer of the Royal Star & Garter, Vice-Chairman of the Seafarers' Charity and chair of the Investment, Finance and Audit Committee of Royal Navy Rugby Union. I have previously acted as the independent advisor to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and as a School Governor. In addition, I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
