Nick Wood
Head of Investment Fund Research
London
What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
I graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in Economics and a Masters in Russian and Eastern European Studies. I am a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder and an Associate of the Charted Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).
In my career so far, I previously work at US asset manager Capital Group for 10 years, and investment consultancy Stamford Associates. Having worked at a large asset manager and an institutional consultancy, the move to wealth management allows me to utilise the skills I’ve built up over my career within a part of the industry that very directly connects to our underlying clients.
How do you approach your role on a daily basis?
I head the Fund Research team at Quilter cheviot, where we ae tasked researching and recommending the best available funds, investment trusts and ETFs for our clients across all asset classes and geographies. I currently chair the Funds Committee and Alternatives committee as well as sitting on the asset allocation committee.
I have featured in the Citywire Top 100 Fund Selectors every year since 2012, whilst the team has won the Portfolio Adviser Fund Selection Team of the year in 2021 and 2022.
I also produce the award winning Fund Buyer podcast, which shines a light on the world of funds from the perspective of an experience buyer.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I spend a lot of my time training and racing in long distance running and triathlon events. I have represented GB in amateur world triathlon and duathlon championships and have been the winner of the British 10 mile championships within my age group.
I have also been involved with a number of charities during my career and currently sit on the investment committees of King’s College London and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
