Nicholas Omale

Responsible Investment Analyst
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

After completing my master’s degree in international finance, I was driven by intellectual curiosity to pursue a career in financial services. This led me to research several fields in the industry and I discovered the asset management sector through an industry initiative called investment 20/20. I found asset management particularly appealing due to the morally rewarding element of helping people grow their pensions. I secured an Investment Trainee position at BNP Paribas, where I had rotations across sustainable investment and fixed interest. Following the placement, I went on to become a Responsible Investment Analyst at Quilter Cheviot, as I had some previous experience working in sustainable investment so wanted to pursue a relevant career that would match my skillset in due diligence, quantitative research, and stewardship.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

In my role as a responsible investment analyst, my goal is to protect and enhance long-term returns for clients through stewardship. To achieve this, I lead thematic research and engage with companies and boards to better understand how they manage ESG (environmental, social and governance) risks and opportunities. I also develop data dashboards for our equity analysts as well as for the funds and models that we manage for ESG research integration.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I am Interested in long-distance cycling, reading, and watching documentaries. I am also an ambassador for Investment 20/20, which is a large network of investment management companies committed to help young people gain access to the industry. Through this position I educate aspiring asset management professionals on the different career paths in the industry.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
