What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
After gaining my BSc in Mathematics in 1996, I took a temporary role in a local Investment Management firm in Wiltshire, not expecting much from it in truth. However, I found a great deal of satisfaction from working with people and providing help in an area that may seem daunting to them, in that specific case unit trusts and Personal Equity Plans.
This soon became a permanent position and, after a year, I took the opportunity to grow this further with a move to the Private Client and Charity area of a highly regarded firm in the City of London. Nine years later, with a yearning to return to the West Country, I took a role as a Private Banker with a well-known high street bank based out of Exeter, converting this back to Private Client Investment Management a couple of years later with Quilter Cheviot in Bristol in 2009.
Through these roles, I found the personal interaction with people to be the icing on the investment management cake, be they clients, financial advisers or others involved with the portfolios.
How do you work with / look after clients?
As an Investment Manager, my primary role is to provide a comprehensive investment management service to clients and their advisers. From the construction of portfolios based on the requirements of individual clients, on-going trading, through to providing periodic reviews and assessments, this role is very diverse and enjoyable (mostly!). Working closely with colleagues, such as regional development managers and other investment managers, helps to build the complete, all-round service levels for which we strive.
What are your interests outside of work?
For the last few years, my priority has been to spend time with my family. Having two young sons certainly keeps me busy and, when they are old enough, I am looking forward to introducing them to various activities that used to take up my spare time, such as rock climbing, cycling and skiing.
