Nathan Phillips
Trainee Investment Manager
Birmingham
What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
After graduating from the University of Birmingham with a First-Class Honours Degree in Economics, I was keen to explore a variety of career paths across the whole spectrum of professional services before beginning my career. With this aim in mind, I completed internships in corporate deal advisory, accounting, and tax planning; before joining Quilter Cheviot as a graduate Trainee Investment Manager in January 2022.
I personally feel that the wealth management industry is uniquely able to combine my passions for econometrics, finance, and behavioural economics, all whilst building close relationships with clients.
How do you approach your role on a daily basis?
I chose to pursue a career Quilter Cheviot in particular due to their intense focus on fostering a long-term relationship of trust with all of their clients. The thought that I can work with generations of the same family to secure, protect, and build their financial position is far more satisfying than the more transient nature of many other professional services.
Upon completion of my chartership, I am looking forwards to building a close-knit network of professional contacts and clients, to whom I hope to provide a sense of dependability in what can, at times, be an unsettling area.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I am a keen athlete, regularly competing in a variety of sporting challenges: from Jui Jitsu to triathlon and more. My most recent achievement was finishing the Ride London 100-mile cycle in a speedy (if I do say so myself) 4 hours and raising money for great causes in the process.
I pride myself on my ‘try anything’ attitude to hobbies, and I have already been introduced to several new interests during my time at QC – although I am yet to master golf!
