Joe Burns
Investment Director

What attracted you to a career in investment management?
My path to investment management began with a degree in Economics from the University of Aberdeen. I entered the financial world as a graduate trainee for a large global asset manager before joining Quilter Cheviot in 2011 on establishment of the Edinburgh office. Initially joining as a Trainee Investment Manager, I progressed to Investment Manager, eventually becoming an Investment Director in 2022. With over 11 years in the industry and recognition as one of Citywire's "Top 30 under 30," I was drawn to the complexities of managing multi-asset bespoke discretionary portfolios for high net worth clients, trusts, and charities.
How do you approach your role on a daily basis?
As an Investment Director, my role revolves around managing tailored portfolios, incorporating various asset classes like equities, fixed income, private equity, hedge funds, and property. I prioritise personalisation, recognising that each client has unique financial goals. My experience, spanning more than a decade, helps me provide the level of service clients deserve. Regular communication and in-depth reviews ensure their portfolios align with their evolving objectives, reaffirming my commitment to client satisfaction.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I'm an active participant in sports like squash and golf. However, my greatest joy comes from spending time with my three young children. My professional interests continue to evolve within the dynamic world of wealth management, while my personal life revolves around family and cherishing these precious moments together.
