What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
After completing my degree in Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol and a few stints in various other industries I joined The City, with my first investment role working for Singer Capital Markets which was part of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander at the time, starting on the trading floor as an Equity Research Analyst. It was a very interesting time being 2008 in the midst of the Global Financial Crisis, and while that role or the bank itself didn’t last due to the economic conditions, my desire to continue to work in the industry did, while ultimately seeking a role that was more client facing. I subsequently found my role with Quilter Cheviot, or Quilter as it was known back then, and worked my way up to become an Investment Manager, taking numerous exams and qualifications including the Investment Management Certificate, Masters in Wealth Management and passing the CFA Level 1. This all lead to me becoming a Chartered Fellow of the Institute for Securities and Investment. I have now been managing investment portfolios on behalf of clients for 15 years.
What would you like to achieve for clients?
Having such long-term relationships with my clients is one of the perks of the job, and I take great pleasure in helping my clients achieve their investment goals. Investing for the long term takes expertise and patience and I am always on hand to help clients and keep them in touch throughout their investment journey, while managing portfolios through the inevitable market cycles and economic changes along the way.
There are some really exciting investment opportunities available to investors that will help grow their wealth long term that I am able to access with the deep expertise and research resource at Quilter Cheviot. It also takes a steady hand to ensure portfolios are sufficiently diversified across the right sectors, geographies and asset classes to ensure my clients are best protected when markets turn unexpectedly as they have done in more recent years, whilst ensuring portfolios can provide regular income or capital drawdown if needed.
Each and every one of my discretionary client investment portfolios are truly bespoke and designed to fit their overall objectives and requirements in the best manner possible.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I regularly play squash and am a keen enthusiast for outdoor pursuits, whatever the season, having completed various cross country skiing marathons and trail running races in recent years. I also enjoy surfing and kitesurfing, especially off the beautiful beaches of Devon and Cornwall, when I can find the time.
