Andy Gray

Investment Manager
Leicester

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

Following my degree from Loughborough University, I spent some time working in engineering before developing a real interest in financial markets. Having initially worked as a financial adviser in a high street bank, in 2012 I took the opportunity to join Quilter Cheviot and specialise in investment management.

Whilst I get great satisfaction from the technical aspects of investment management, it is also a privilege to be trusted by clients, and immensely satisfying to clients navigate the complexities of investments.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

My main priority is to help clients maximise their financial assets and to ensure their financial security throughout their lifetime. This includes helping clients understand their investments and the associated risks, providing guidance on realistic returns and sustainable income levels.

For many people, reflecting their personal ethical views in their portfolios is an important aspect of what we do. I enjoy exploring the complexities of this subject with clients and identifying the most effective way to incorporate this into each individual portfolio.

I have been part of the Charities Team since 2016. For charities, which often have a much longer investment horizon, I support trustee boards in implementing investment and ethical policies, as well as bringing trustees together for regional workshops to explore topical issues and providing opportunities for trustees to share ideas and work more collaboratively together.

What are your interests outside of work?

Besides spending time with my three daughters I enjoy undertaking hands-on projects around the house and garden. My faith is important to me and I support a range of charities on issues of concern to me. Alongside my eldest daughter, who is passionate about animals, I volunteer at a local animal sanctuary.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
