Steve Daborn (DipPFS)

Financial Planner
Chester office

My career  in financial services started in 1985 when I joined Norwich Union Life (now Aviva) as a life office consultant . I left after two years to start my own business in North Wales -Buckles Life and Pensions .This business was where I developed my relationship with clients to provide financial planning over the long term – I still have clients to this day who I started advising in 1988 .

The Buckles business flourished and when we sold the business we had over 50 financial planers and were one of the largest planning firms in the north west . I was particularly proud that we started one of the first graduate trainee schemes and many young graduates entered the financial services industry through the Buckles scheme .

In 2015 I joined Quilter Cheviot Financial Planning and I specialise in investment, retirement and estate planning. I was amongst the first individuals to pass the Advanced Financial Planning certificate in 1990 which has now become the core qualification for financial planners .Being a touchstone for my clients on all things financial is my aim and something I believe I have achieved over many years.

In my spare time I enjoy squash and Golf and enjoy travelling particularly to Italy.

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

My journey in financial services commenced in 1985 at Norwich Union Life (now Aviva) as a life office consultant. After two years, I ventured into entrepreneurship with Buckles Life and Pensions in North Wales. This endeavour allowed me to cultivate long-term client relationships through financial planning, some of which continue to this day. The business thrived, ultimately becoming one of the largest planning firms in the north-west, pioneering a graduate trainee scheme. In 2015, I joined Quilter Private Client Advisers, specializing in investment, retirement, and estate planning. A touchstone for my clients in all things financial, I've embraced this role over many years.

How do you look after clients?

As an investment, retirement, and estate planning specialist at Quilter Private Client Advisers, I've spent years focusing on providing personalized financial guidance. My priority is to ensure that each client's unique financial goals and needs are addressed. This entails frequent and meaningful interactions, both written and in-person, to review objectives and adapt strategies as needed. My client-facing role is driven by the belief that tailoring portfolios to match individual client expectations is paramount to their financial success.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside my professional life, I find solace in activities like squash and golf, allowing me to stay active and unwind. I'm also an enthusiast for travel, with a particular fondness for exploring Italy. These interests provide a delightful counterbalance to my career in wealth management.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
