Alan Barral

Financial Planner
London office

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

Ultimately wealth management is about people and relationships, and it is extremely rewarding to see my clients realise the financial goals that they set out to achieve.

With a career in wealth management spanning 17 years and counting, no two days are the same. I enjoy the challenge of navigating the vast array of financial solutions available in the market and distilling them down into a simple coherent strategy, which allows my clients to maximise their wealth for themselves and their families - I have particular expertise in advising Entrepreneurs and Business owners approaching an exit or liquidity event.

It is not lost on me the immense responsibility bestowed on us by our clients to manage their personal wealth and it is something that I have, and always will take great pride in.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

As a Financial Planner, my primary role is to ensure that the structure of my client’s wealth is perfectly aligned to their short, medium and long term financial goals.

To do this, I believe it is fundamentally important to take the time at the beginning of a relationship to define exactly what my clients would like to achieve from their wealth, and then work with them to develop specific measurable objectives that can be tracked over time. This could range from; wanting to retire at a certain age with a specific level of income, to ensuring their family is protected if anything were to happen to them unexpectedly, to maximising the legacy they can leave to their children and grandchildren.

We use cashflow forecasting to model our client’s financial future, a critical stage of any robust financial plan, which allows us to make short-term decisions that affects their long-term wealth. We then formulate a completely bespoke financial plan and investment strategy that perfectly aligns with those objectives, meeting formally at least annually to ensure that the plan remains on track and is revised to take account of any circumstantial changes that may have taken place during the course of the year.

Outside of formal reviews, we are at your disposal throughout the year and always available to answer any queries that may crop up or act as a sounding board.

What are your interests outside of work?

Beyond my professional interests, I can usually be found spending quality time with my family, travelling, reading, or playing sports (particularly Football & Golf).

I am also a long suffering Leeds United fan.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
