Toby Rowe

Sustainable Investment Specialist
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

With a background and interest in Economics, I always knew I would work in a finance-related role. I began my career in the banking sector, joining RBS’s Internal Audit department in 2014 where I qualified as a Chartered Accountant. I moved progressively closer to the front line of wealth management, joining Quilter’s Internal Audit department in 2018 before moving to Quilter Cheviot’s Sustainable Investment team in 2022. My current role, as a Sustainable Investment Specialist, contributes directly to our strategy of being ‘responsible wealth manager’, working closely with the investment professionals managing sustainable investments. I enjoy the client facing aspect of my role and I champion clarity and transparency in the investment process.

In addition to my accountancy qualification, I have completed the CFA UK Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and Certificate in Climate and Investing (CCI).

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

In my role as Sustainable Investment Specialist, I am responsible for reporting in line with evolving regulatory requirements for our dedicated offering, including the Climate Assets and the Quilter Investors Ethical Equity Funds. I developed our first annual sustainable investment reporting along with our approach to assessing our investments using the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) framework. This helps us to ensure that our clients and investors are invested in companies that make a meaningful contribution to the goals, and that our investment process is transparent. I am excited about the future of Sustainable Investment, and I aim to continue evolving our framework and reporting. I also collaborate with colleagues to promote good business practices by engaging with companies that we invest in.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a keen interest in both following and playing sport, regularly playing tennis, football, golf and padel.  My young son is also giving me lots of joy and I am looking forward to introducing him to these sports in the years’ ahead.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
