Tom Perks

Investment Manager
Birmingham

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

My fascination with financial markets started in 1997 when, at the age of 12, the Halifax Building Society demutualised and listed on the London Stock Exchange. My child’s savings account entitled me to a share award and, after some explanation from my parents, I began avidly monitoring the share price in the weekend newspaper. This interest followed me through school and university, and I joined the industry shortly after graduating. My professional introduction to markets came through my time on a dealing desk, buying and selling equities and bonds in markets across the globe before qualifying as an Investment Manager in 2011.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

I prioritise understanding each client's financial goals and tailoring investment strategies accordingly. Regular and transparent communication is key in ensuring that their portfolios align with their evolving objectives. Being the Quilter Cheviot representative and President of the Birmingham branch of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments underscores my commitment to professional standards.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, watching sports and spending time planning our next trip abroad. I’m lucky enough to have travelled throughout most of the Far East with Japan being my favourite destination.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
