Tim Newman
Investment Manager
London
What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
After graduating with first-class Honours from the University of Warwick with a Masters of Mechanical Engineering, I joined Quilter Cheviot in 2011, first as a performance analyst within our research team. Through becoming a CFA Charterholder, I further developed my skills. My passion for using analytical and numerical skills to solve complex challenges that had initially led me to wealth management inspired me to join the front office in 2016, where I manage portfolios for individuals, trusts, and pension funds.
How do you approach your role on a daily basis?
As an Investment Manager I manage discretionary portfolios for private clients, pensions, and trusts. My role involves a diversified multi-asset approach and making active decisions on both asset allocation and stock selection. I prioritise forging long-term relationships with clients and financial advisors. Regular, open and honest conversations are fundamental for building trust and to tailoring portfolios to each investor's goals and circumstances.
What are your interests outside of work?
Away from work, I enjoy spending time doing exercise - running and swimming are my favourites. I find these to provide a good balance and refresher from the demands of work. You are also equally likely to find me in the mountains, on the golf course or playing a board game.
