Sebastian Taylor
Investment Manager
Leicester
What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
I have always had an interest in finance and investments, and this grew throughout my degree in Business Management. I secured my break in investment management in 2011 at Brewin Dolphin in Leicester, before moving with the office to Charles Stanley, where I completed my exams and became a qualified investment manager and a Chartered Fellow of the CISI. I had the opportunity to move to Quilter Cheviot in September 2017 to work with a senior investment manager, whilst building my own book and assisting with managing his clients. I have forged a strong relationship with my clients since starting at Quilter Cheviot and in June 2023 I took over the book of clients from the retiring investment manager.
How do you approach your role on a daily basis?
The most important part of my role is having a strong understanding of my clients’ needs, objectives and goals and using this information to construct bespoke, multi-asset investment portfolios. To make this process work, it requires a very close relationship with the financial advisers I work with and for direct clients, I place a lot of emphasis on an initial and then follow up meetings. Constructing the portfolios is only the starting point and from there, portfolios are managed daily by myself and my team, and I am fortunate to have Quilter Cheviot’s award-winning research team working in the background, which gives comfort to my clients and financial advisers that all of their investments are being monitored on a daily basis. It is vital to maintain a good line of communication and we review the portfolio on an annual basis, and more regularly if necessary.
What are your interests outside of work?
I have a young family and I therefore like to spend as much time with them as I can. I enjoy sports, having represented Leicestershire junior age groups at cricket, hockey and tennis, although I tend to watch now rather than play!
