Patrick Main

Trainee Investment Manager
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

I began my career in a business development role at Fisher Investments UK in Canary Wharf.  I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with both existing and prospective clients to help them towards financial prosperity.  After two years at Fisher and having gained my Investment Advice Diploma, I soon realised that I was seeking a role which combined a client facing role with portfolio management. I joined Quilter Cheviot in 2022 as Trainee Investment Manager and I am currently studying for the Chartered Wealth Management qualification.  I believe that a career in Wealth Management demands a blend of financial acumen and interpersonal skills, making it intellectually and emotionally stimulating.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

Since joining Quilter Cheviot, my role requires to assist with the management and administration of portfolios on behalf of private clients, pensions, trusts, and charities alongside the Climate Assets and Libero Balanced Funds.  I therefore support the Investment Managers on my team to provide tailored investment solutions that align with our clients’ financial goals, risk tolerance and personal circumstances.  I also ensure that clients’ requests are dealt with in a timely and careful manner.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy reading and subscribe to several financial columnists to keep abreast of financial affairs and build upon my business awareness.  Unrelated to finance, I particularly enjoy a gripping fictional novel.  I like most sports and have a passion for horse racing and skiing, with a keen interest in ski touring and off-piste skiing.  In the summer months I play padel tennis and there isn’t much that I enjoy more than a good game of cricket with friends.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
