Nicola Toyer

Charities Director
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

Having studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at University of Warwick, I knew that I wanted to combine an interest in economics with a desire to help people. This led me to join Smith and Williamson in 2009 where I spent ten years looking after private clients and offshore trusts, before moving to Investec in 2019 to join their charities team, where I subsequently became Head of Charities. This allowed me to combine my professional life with my own personal values and I find advising clients in the charity space incredibly rewarding. I moved to Quilter Cheviot in 2025 where I work closely with our regional offices and continue to advise charity clients. Underpinning my experience, I am also a CFA Charterholder and hold the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

My role centres on building strong relationships with clients and being a trusted adviser to them. My main focus is on understanding their requirements and building a lasting partnership so we can construct a bespoke portfolio to effectively meet their unique needs and circumstances. I work closely with all members of the charities team and believe strongly in the power of collaboration and empowerment to facilitate growth.

What are your interests outside of work?

Away from work, I am a member of the Finance Committee for the Anglo American Foundation. You will also find me either snowboarding in the mountains or exploring other countries and cultures. However, as I spend most of my time in the UK, you will more likely find me in the gym or eating out.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
