Julian Harper
Investment Manager
London
What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
I began my career as an administrator at Lloyds Private Banking after graduating from Kingston University. I realised that in addition to technical knowledge, the human element of the role is just as important in wealth management; and since this early stage of my career, was keen to build long term relationships with clients.
As a result, from there I went on to become a trainee Investment Manager at Investec where I completed the relevant exams to qualify as an Investment Manager. I joined Quilter Cheviot in 2006 where I have enjoyed building a book of clients and developing close relationships with financial intermediaries. I have over 15 years of investment experience managing portfolios on behalf of clients.
How do you work with / look after clients?
My goal is to ensure every client makes informed decisions, driven by a clear understanding of how this might affect their long-term financial position. I work towards this by tailoring my approach to the individual needs of each client, depending on their financial goals and ensuring this reflects any financial planning that may be in place. Clients are at the heart of our business and trust is an important aspect of this. My clients know that their investment portfolios are taken care of with the highest qualitative standards, backed by extensive research and industry insights.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I have been involved in grass roots football for over 12 years and am a qualified FA coach for a large local football club. As part of this I have a strong passion to develop all abilities adopting a “football for all” mentality. I also like to keep active through running, the gym and still playing football when I can. I also have three children which keep me busy juggling their various commitments.
