Dominic Lacey
Investment Manager
Salisbury
What attracted you to a career in wealth management?
My interest in investing began at a young age reading financial magazines at the breakfast table before school, learning about companies and markets. After graduating from the University of Bath with a degree in Natural Sciences, I had a short internship in a support role with Investec in Guernsey which cemented my interest in wealth management.
I undertook my professional qualifications whilst working at a local Dorset firm, 4 Shires and achieved Chartered Wealth Manager status in 2017. I joined Quilter Cheviot in 2021 where I have broadened my investment knowledge and enjoy a high level of interaction with clients and their advisers. I have spent 11 years as an investment manager having experienced many different market conditions and economic events over the years.
How do you work with / look after clients?
My aim is to help clients understand what they are invested in and why, by maintaining a deep understanding of the funds and companies I invest in on their behalf and communicating this in a concise and clear way to them. Ultimately clients must trust the expertise of their investment manager to look after their hard-earned savings in a sensible manner, whilst maintaining appropriate risk controls in line with their objectives.
After listening to a financial podcast on the commute, day-to-day my role will involve monitoring markets and economic data, structuring client investment portfolios and meeting or calling clients periodically to ensure their portfolio is being managed in a way that is suitable for their wider financial circumstances.
Within Quilter Cheviot I also sit on the Best Execution committee, which helps to provide oversight on the trading activity within the firm and promote good client outcomes. I am also often involved with the latest IT initiatives in the firm.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I like to keep fit spending time at the gym or playing squash, although most of the time I am spent finding innovative ways to keep my young children entertained (and perhaps develop the next generation of investors along the way).
