Claudia Quiroz

Head of Sustainable Investment
London

What attracted you to a career in wealth management?

After a number of years in the fund management industry, in 2009, I joined Quilter Cheviot to embrace the client facing aspects of wealth management. At Quilter Cheviot I got others to share my passion for sustainability & ESG investing and launched one of the first multi-assets fund within the sustainable investment space and one of the first fossil fuel free offerings. I am now the Head of Sustainable Investment and very much enjoy leading a dedicated team of eight. I am the Lead Fund Manager of our award-winning Climate Assets Funds and the Quilter Investors Ethical Equity Fund. The overall strategy grew to be part of our discretionary offering and in addition to funds, my team also manages private client and charity portfolios, with a focus on sustainable investment and ESG integration. A small number of UK funds are managed by women, thus our funds are rare in the marketplace, which I am proud of, as gender diversity and inclusion are very important to me. Capitalising on my work and industry experience, I also enjoy mentoring colleagues and ensuring everyone in my team can build a successful career.

How do you approach your role on a daily basis?

Over my investment career, I have championed sustainable investment in the financial services sector. I continue to work with colleagues and advisers to ensure we understand how to better serve our clients with a focus on sustainability. I champion clarity and transparency in the investment process, so that our clients get what it says on the tin – a full alignment with their values and criteria. With that in mind, I aim to develop our reporting further to enhance our carbon & climate disclosure. As a voting member of our International Stock Selection Committee, I continue to promote sustainable investment opportunities across our wider investment teams and promote good business practices by engaging with the companies that we invest in.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy entertaining family and friends and eating at new restaurants, to find cooking inspiration. As proud owners of a big labradoodle, my husband and I enjoy long countryside hikes and whilst not always succeeding, I try hard to be a ‘cool and calm’ mum to our teen son. As the first one in my family to go to university and have a career, I am very aware of the impact of education in personal wealth, thus, contributing to my community is very important to me. As a team, we regularly partake in volunteering days, most recently in a homeless shelter in London. To keep my brain in check, I like solving tangram puzzles and reading fiction.

The value of your investments and the income from them can fall and you may not recover what you invested.
